Since 1881, until the beginning of the new millennium, Zastava arms factory remained loyal to Mauser system, with all the innovations that followed during one century of its active existence. Thanks to the experience in production of military rifles M48 of Mauser system, Zastava arms started batch production of sporting rifles M56 (cal. 7.9mm) in 1956.
Today, Zastava arms produces sporting rifles, based on Mauser system, in 24 different calibers. Zastava rifles are the only true World famous action in current production.
